Dalhart Windberg, Artist

Put April 18th on your calendar! Nationally known Texas artist, Dalhart Windberg will be sharing his artistic talent and knowledge right here in Tyler County. The Tyler County Art League will join the Emporium for the Arts to make this event happen.

Born in 1933, Windberg has spent many years journeying far beyond his Texas home, recording on canvas his most interesting discoveries and fondest recollection. His subjects are as varied as life itself. From the awakening aura of a Rocky Mountain snowfall to the sleepy silence of cypress woodlands, or the rustic beauty of the Texas Hill country, the land has been reborn by his palette knife and brush.

Windberg's Woodville visit will offer both artists and collectors the opportunity to watch him create an original painting as well as listen to the lessons learned during Dalhart's artistic journey. The event is scheduled from 1-4 pm at the Art Emporium located at 212 W. Bluff next to the Art Gallery in downtown Woodville. Tickets are $8 for TCAL members and $10 for non-members. Windberg will be available to sign your art books and Windberg prints, etc. Artist will be able to purchase art materials from the new Windberg art line.

For information or tickets, call 409-283-2788 or stop by the Art Gallery. Only 90 tickets will be sold for this event.

Edgar Cruz Concert...April 18, 2009

Each year acoustic guitarist, Edgar Cruz performs over 200 concerts and has played throughout America, Europe and South America. Those who have witnessed Cruz's performance immediately become entranced at the precision, speed and complexity with which his fingers strike the strings of his guitar to creat a symphony of sound unusual to just one instrument. Cruz offers an incredible live repertoire of " the Greatest Hits of the Guitar". Malaguena, Classical Gas, Dueling Banjos, Hotel California to name a few. Edgar has been named the Oklahoma's Top Performing Artist and/or Acoustic Guitarist for over ten years.

TCAL's neighbor, The Emporium Stage located at 212 W. Bluff in Downtown Woodville, TX is proud to present this outstanding talent in concert. The April 18th concert will begin at 7 PM. (house will open at 6:30 PM) Tickets are $20 each. Tickets are on sale at the Art Gallery at 210 W. Bluff or call 409-283-2788 or 409-283-3832 for reservations.

Youth Storytelling Circle to Start In January

After storytelling performances by Shelby Smith at “Dickens in the Country” December 5, young people wanting to learn how to tell stories showed a great deal of interest. It just so happens that Shelby has been looking for this student interest for several years and jumped at the chance. Currently, Tyler County Art Gallery hosts a storytelling circle once a month on the second Tuesday from 7-8:30 pm. Since this is a school night, it was decided set a youth storytelling circle from 5-6 pm on that same second Tuesday. Any student from the age of 7 to 17 is invited to come listen or try telling a story. As a veteran teacher, Shelby will be on hand to moderate the story circle and give helpful hints and suggestions, if requested. This is a “no pressure” kind of get together. This is a chance for your frustrated thespian, aka: chatter box, to develop skills in communication, poise and self-confidence. There is no obligation for this monthly activity, other than perhaps a good pair of listening ears. For more information contact: Tyler County Art Gallery 409-283-2788 or Shelby Smith at 214-212-1771.
