Youth Storytelling Circle to Start In January

After storytelling performances by Shelby Smith at “Dickens in the Country” December 5, young people wanting to learn how to tell stories showed a great deal of interest. It just so happens that Shelby has been looking for this student interest for several years and jumped at the chance. Currently, Tyler County Art Gallery hosts a storytelling circle once a month on the second Tuesday from 7-8:30 pm. Since this is a school night, it was decided set a youth storytelling circle from 5-6 pm on that same second Tuesday. Any student from the age of 7 to 17 is invited to come listen or try telling a story. As a veteran teacher, Shelby will be on hand to moderate the story circle and give helpful hints and suggestions, if requested. This is a “no pressure” kind of get together. This is a chance for your frustrated thespian, aka: chatter box, to develop skills in communication, poise and self-confidence. There is no obligation for this monthly activity, other than perhaps a good pair of listening ears.
